The Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard officially incorporated into its fleet the patrol vessel HMJS Alexander Bustamante, a Damen Stan Patrol 4207 type unit(SPa 4207).
At the same time it was announced the change of names of the other two type patrol boats SPa 4207 in service, HMJS Cornwall and HMJS Middlesex to those of HMJS Samuel Sharpe and HMJS George William Gordon.
HMJS Alexander Bustamante was built at the Song Cam shipyard in Damen, Vietnam, and arrived in Jamaica, in August 2021, aboard the heavy transport ship BBC Congo. Their transfer was delayed due to the Covid-19pandemic. Once at its destination, before entering service it underwent the final phase of enlistment while the training of its crew was completed.
The characteristics of the Jamaican SPa 4207 are as follows: their hull is built in naval steel and the superstructure in aluminum. They measure 42.08 meters in length, 7.11 meters in beam and their maximum broth is 2.52 meters. They are powered by two Caterpillar 3516 DI-TA power plants that allow them to reach a maximum speed of 26 knots. Its range is 1,800 nautical miles at 12 knots and its autonomy of 14 days. The armament includes at least two 12.7 mm machine guns and the crew consists of 17 personnel of all ranks.
